As Mother’s Day arrives, I want to take a moment to celebrate all the incredible mothers and mother figures in our community.
I have always tried to focus on what we moms have in common. As a mother of an autistic child, I cannot imagine my life without my son exactly as he is. The journey has not always been what I expected, but it has taught me more than I ever could have imagined. Right now, we are sitting together in a restaurant talking about the world as it is, and I am reminded how far we have come.
Whether you are a mom, grandmother, caregiver, mentor, or someone who simply shows up with love and support, you make a meaningful difference every single day. The care, advocacy, patience, and strength you bring to the autism community does not go unnoticed.
This journey can be both beautiful and challenging. Today is about honoring all of it, the love you give, the resilience you show, and the quiet moments of connection that mean so much.
If you can, take a moment for yourself today. You deserve that same compassion you so freely give to others.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Karen
